Brought to you in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium. Register and submit questions for the authors . Join us for an empowering conversation with health expert Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel as he shares his vision for living well and aging with purpose. In Eat Your Ice Cream: Six Simple Rules for a Long and Healthy Life , he explores how to embrace health, happiness, and longevity without falling for quick fixes or unrealistic promises. Everyone wants to live a full and healthy lifeโ€•and every day brings a tidal wave of attention-grabbing misinformation, faddish ideas from โ€œwellnessโ€ influencers, and bizarre advice from news outlets. The โ€œWellness Industrial Complexโ€ prescribes conflicting and complicated regimens while promising us more time to enjoy in the futureโ€•though it sure is demanding a lot of time right now. But what actually matters most to our health and longevity? In Eat Your Ice Cream , renowned physician Ezekiel J. Emanuel argues that life is not a competition to live the longest and that โ€œwellnessโ€ shouldnโ€™t be difficult; it should be an invisible part of oneโ€™s lifestyle that yields maximum health benefits with the least work. Dr. Emanuel cuts through the noise with wit and good humor, giving readers just what they need: simple, high-impact, evidence-based guidelines on such issues as alcohol consumption, food and nutrition, exercise, sleep, and social engagement. Resisting the tide of the latest trends to extend life at all costs, Eat Your Ice Cream reveals that many of the tools for a long, healthy and meaningful life are already within reach. Register now to hear incredible tips on living a full and healthy life. About the Author : Ezekiel J. Emanuel, MD, PhD, is the Vice Provost for Global Initiatives, the Co-Director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute, and a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Emanuel is an oncologist and world leader in health policy and bioethics. He is a Special Advisor to the Director General of the World Health Organization, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, and member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He was the founding chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health and held that position until August of 2011. Dr. Emanuel is the most widely cited bioethicist in history. He has over 350 publications and has authored or edited 15 books. He regularly contributes to the New York Times , the Washington Post , the Wall Street Journal , and The Atlantic .

One Week. One Stage. One Unforgettable Summer. The Midland Theatre is proud to welcome back Missoula Children's Theatre and their legendary Red Truck Tour for a one-week summer residency โ€” and this year, they're bringing the magic of Aladdin to our historic stage. A magic lamp. A Cave of (not-so-great) Wonders. Wise Genies, a powerful Sultan, lost Penguins, talking Palm Trees, and one young hero trying to make a good impression on a Princess โ€” all without a single wish to spare. Adapted by Michael McGill with original music and lyrics, this is a swirling sandstorm of Arabian adventure packed with memorable characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and enough heart to fill 1,001 nights. And the best part? The entire cast is made up of local students โ€” right here from our community. How It Works Professional touring directors from Missoula Children's Theatre arrive at The Midland with everything needed for a full production โ€” costumes, sets, and a whole lot of theatrical energy. The only thing missing is the cast. That's where your child comes in. Students in grades 1โ€“12 audition on Monday and, in just five days, rehearse, develop their characters, learn their parts, and perform a fully staged production on The Midland's historic stage.

Presented in color, a look back on the lives, businesses, and friendships of three of Americaโ€™s titans of industry: Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison. America is still a rural nation in 1910. Most homes don't have electricity, and less than one percent of the population owns a car. But that changes with the rise of Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, and Thomas Edison, who help foster the economic and technological booms of the early 20th century. Through colorized archival footage and personal home movies, explore the business relationships that transformed America and glimpse into powerful friendships that lasted a lifetime. TVPG-V / 48 min (may contain violence) Part of our America 250 Smithsonian Channel Film Series, this special presentation explores the people, moments, and events that shaped the American story.
