A look at the charms and challenges of small town life in America during the first half of the 20th century, presented entirely in color. At the turn of the 20th century, two-thirds of Americans live in small towns, but by the 1960s, only a third remain. Some are lured to cities by the promise of opportunity and money, while others move there to escape racism and intolerance. Through it all, the myth of these quaint, harmonious communities continues to burn powerfully in the minds of many. This is the story of small town America, from soap box derbies and Will Rogers' charm to postwar poverty and the Great Migration, presented in color. • ๐ŸŽจ Are You Ready For It? A Taylor Experience.

    15:00 · The Midland Theatre

    Arts Music
    View original ↗

Taylor Swift has been ranked by Billboard as one of the greatest artists of all time, alongside other legends like The Beatles, Michael Jackon, and Madonna, to name a few. Swift has deservedly earned this spot, and is undoubtedly loved and adored by her fans, known to the world as โ€œSwifties.โ€ After close to 20 years in the music industry, Taylor Swift has proven herself as a music icon, being the first and only artist to win a Grammy for Album of the Year 4 years in a row. In 2023, Taylor Swift began her iconic Eras Tour in the US. Since then, the Eras Tour has become a billion-dollar global phenomenon, and the highest grossing tour in history. Are You Ready For It? A Taylor Experience, recreates the magic of the Eras Tour in a spectacular, unforgettable show starring Traci Marie as Taylor. Traciโ€™s attention to detail will not go unnoticed by Swifties. Her authentic costumes, mannerisms, and voice embody the essence of Taylor Swift. This theatrical style show is filled with everything youโ€™d expect to see from the Eras Tour; choreography, stunning multimedia visuals, costume changes, and audience participation. Traci, a small-town theater girl from the suburbs of Chicago, grew up surrounded by musical talent. Throughout her career, she has opened for national touring artists like Tony Orlando, The Righteous Brothers, Chubby Checker, and others. Sheโ€™s performed with Felix Cavaliere of The Rascals, and Dennis Tufano of The Buckinghams fame. Some movies are great. Some movies are free. And some movies were basically made for us. Creepshow is all three. Stephen King wrote it. George Romero directed it. And Hal Holbrook โ€” who delivers one of the film's most chilling performances in the segment "The Crate" โ€” is a Denison University alum who performed as Mark Twain on this very stage. His statue sits on a bench on the Newark Town Square right outside our front door. You will literally walk past him on your way in. This is Ohio Goes to the Moviesโ„ข at its most perfect: a legendary horror film, a genuine local connection, and not a single dollar required to see it. Ohio Goes to the Moviesโ„ข exists because great cinema belongs to everyone in Licking County and across central Ohio โ€” not just the people who can afford a night out. This is that mission in action. Pack the house. Bring your friends. Bring the neighbors. Bring anyone who's ever loved a good scare and a great story. Five tales of terror. Zero excuses. One unforgettable night at the Midland.

    14:00 · The Midland Theatre

    Arts
    View original ↗

Henry Brubaker arrives at Wakefield Prison Farm as a new inmate โ€” but he's actually the new warden, and what he uncovers inside is a system so deeply corrupt it threatens everyone who tries to challenge it. Robert Redford is at his absolute best here: measured, determined, and quietly devastating. Brubaker is a film about institutional power, the cost of doing the right thing, and how hard real change actually is โ€” themes that haven't aged a day. A standout of the 1980s drama canon and a perfect fit for Licking County audiences who appreciate serious, well-crafted filmmaking. The Midland Theatre in Newark, Ohio.
