Brought to you in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium. Register and submit questions for the authors . Join us in conversation with acclaimed author Brad Taylor on his latest work, Shadow Strike , book 20 (yes, you read that right!) of the bestselling Pike Logan series. After its proxies are devastated and its offensive capability pummeled in the latest war in the middle east, a rogue group of Iranian regime officials create a brazen plot to strike back at their hated enemies once and for all. They envision a series of operational dominos culminating in a devastating attack, and the first step is the assassination of the Israeli prime minister. And there’s only one assassin with the skills to pull it off: Abdul Rahman, known in the shadows as the Ghost. When a routine prison transfer is ambushed, the Ghost escapes and is given the assignment. The only Operator who can hunt him down is the man who stopped him before: Pike Logan. Pike and his team soon learn that the mission involves something bigger than just the escape of his old enemy. Working with Mossad agents, the pursuit leads the Taskforce to Argentina. They work to unravel the scope of the attack, and the chase leads them through the tempestuous waterfalls of Iguazu and the Triple Frontier, to the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires, and the tiny village of Ushuaia at the β€œEnd of the World”. As the team races against the clock, Pike learns the stakes are much greater than a single life – the consequences extend into the heartland of America itself. The Ghost may hold the key to an escalation that will upend the worldwide balance of power, and if Pike fails, the fallout won’t just be personal – it’ll be global. Register today to learn why the Pike Logan series has everyone buzzing! About the Author: Brad Taylor is the author of the New York Times bestselling Pike Logan series. He served for more than twenty years in the U.S. Army, including eight years in 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, commonly known as Delta Force. He retired as a Special Forces lieutenant colonel and now lives in Charleston, South Carolina.

Dale Gnidovec, curator of the Orton Geological Museum at The Ohio State University, decodes the topic of geologic time. The rocks in Licking County were formed 320 million years ago, during what geologists call the Carboniferous Period. Some of our favorite fossils, dinosaurs, appeared 225 million years ago in the Triassic Period and became extinct 66 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous Period. Where did those period names come from, and how do we know how old they are? This class answers those questions.

Pat Metheny is a twenty-time Grammy Award winner and the only artist in history to have won Grammys in ten different categories. Born in Lee's Summit, Missouri on August 12, 1954 into a musical family, Metheny began on trumpet at age 8 before discovering his true calling on guitar at 12. By 15, he was already performing with Kansas City's finest jazz musicians, gaining invaluable experience that would shape his revolutionary approach to the instrument. Metheny burst onto the international jazz scene in 1974 during his groundbreaking three-year collaboration with vibraphone legend Gary Burton. His debut album, Bright Size Life (1975), redefined the jazz guitar sound for a new generation. Since then, he has continued to push boundaries, seamlessly blending progressive jazz, contemporary sounds, and innovative technology to expand what's possible on his instrument. His accolades include three gold albums, induction into the DownBeat Hall of Fame (2013), designation as a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master (2018), and induction into the Royal Swedish Academy of Music (2018). His most recent work includes Dream Box (2023), which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, and the ongoing evolution of his Side-Eye project featuring some of today's most exciting young musicians. Metheny's versatility is legendary. He has collaborated with everyone from Steve Reich and Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Milton Nascimento, and David Bowie. His compositions span solo guitar, chamber music, large orchestras, and even his innovative Orchestrion project featuring robotic instruments. Whether exploring intricate chamber compositions in Road To The Sun or expansive jazz masterpieces like From This Place (DownBeat's Jazz Record of the Year), Metheny continues to defy categorization while remaining deeply rooted in melody, swing, and the blues. A true road warrior since the 1970s, Metheny has performed over 100 shows annually for decades, dedicating himself to both his own visionary projects and championing emerging and established artists alike. His performances promise an intimate journey through nearly 50 years of groundbreaking music, featuring a stunning array of guitars and compositions that showcase why he remains one of jazz's brightest stars.

  • 🎨 An Evening with Patrick Ryan, Author of Buckeye

    18:00 - 20:00 · Weathervane Playhouse

    Arts Education
    View original ↗

Licking County Library is proud to host author Patrick Ryan at Weathervane Playhouse. The acclaimed novelist of Buckeye and award-winning short story collections, Patrick Ryan illuminates how ordinary lives reflect extraordinary times. His most recent novel and instant New York Times bestseller, Buckeye , has been praised as β€œa small-town novel of epic proportions” (Tom Perrotta), weaving together the lives of two Midwestern families across generations, from World War II through the late twentieth century. Set in the vividly rendered fictional town of Bonhomie, Ohio, Buckeye explores love, loss, and the shifting tides of American life in the second half of the 20th century with unforgettable characters and piercing emotional insight. Buckeye was selected as a Barnes and Nobles National Book Club Pick for September of 2025, a Read with Jenna pick, and an Indy Next pick. Omniscient, sweeping, almost defiantly sentimental, Buckeye is a reminder of the deep pleasure of following a cast of characters over their entire lives, through births, deaths, marriages, tragedies and, in this case, hard-won reconciliations. The author clearly loves these people, and he makes the safe bet that you will, too. β€” The New York Times Book Review A book signing will take place from 6 - 6:45pm. Mr. Ryan's presentation will begin promptly at 7pm. You may reserve up to 4 free tickets through Weathervane Playhouse's box office at Events for Weathervane Playhouse . Tickets are required for entry. Copies of his book can be pre-ordered for pick-up at the event from Kicks Mix Bookstore .
