About Newark
Newark is the county seat of Licking County, about 40 miles east of Columbus. It sits where the North and South Forks of the Licking River meet, and it is the largest city in the county, with a population of about 50,393. This guide is written for people deciding whether to move here and for people who already have and need to get set up.
Why people move here: housing costs well below the Columbus suburbs, a short drive to the Intel site and the New Albany business park, a walkable downtown around the courthouse square, and a lot of green space, from Dawes Arboretum to Blackhand Gorge. Why some people do not: it is a 40 to 60 minute drive to downtown Columbus, and the job market inside the city is smaller than in Franklin County.
The quick version

- Schools: Newark City Schools inside the city; several other districts within a short drive. See Schools.
- Healthcare: Licking Memorial Hospital is in the city. See Healthcare.
- What to do: the Newark Earthworks, a UNESCO World Heritage site, plus the community events calendar with hundreds of local events every month.
